Sheep, What Sheep?

Posted by Philip (South Wales, United Kingdom) on 6 November 2009 in Landscape & Rural.

Plenty of sheep on the mountain. This was one we could not shake off. Kept following us around!

This is a Welsh Mountain sheep (Defaid Mynydd Cymreig) who are small, hardy sheep from the higher parts of the Welsh mountains. The males have horns, and the females are hornless; they have no wool on the face or legs, and they have long tails (normally left undocked - no I did not check). There are a number of varieties.

For the sheep enthusiasts amoung us I found this site interesting SHEEP.

Another Friend?

There was a farmer on his quad bike quite near the summit with his sheepdog rounding up the sheep. He kept using his quad bike horn to direct the sheep and/or dog. Never seen a farmer do this before.

In this picture, the far mountain peaks were covered with cloud and mist. It was very beautiful. Unfortunately, you cannot pick this up on the size of picture displayed here. The camera is also not safisticated enough to process this detail as the human eye sees it. The Nikon seems to process this sort of fine detail in a slightly blue haze - could probably improve with some noise reduction and tonal contrast filter in this section of the picture. Perhaps in a quiet moment I may experiement!

Any tips or constructive criticism are welcome.

I appreciate all your comments, thank you so much. I do read all the comments and will try to answer any questions you have.
