St. Nicholas' Church: Carrick-on-Suir

Posted by
Philip (South Wales, United Kingdom) on 9 October 2009 in Architecture and Portfolio.

St. Nicholas' Church, Carrick-on-Suir, County Tipperary.

A beautiful Romanesque-style church built in 1879 to replace an earlier church which dated back to 1804. Renovations were carried out during the 1980s.

This is 1 of 3 churches in the town. It brings home the power and importance of the catholic faith in Ireland when a small town can support a church of this size.

Wonderful shot of this beautiful church! Though it reminds me a lot of our Neo-Romanesque churches, its colours are very different. The choir would be worth a closer look... :-)

@MadScientist: Thanks. I'll have to read up on "Romanesque"! There's another picture of the church tomorrow, taken directly behind this perspective, containing the organ.

Perfectly composed shot Phillip.

@LESLIE: Thanks. Wonderful church. Absolutely spotless inside. It was so quiet and felt very special/spirtual.
